A family secret

One shocking argument and ten-year-old Alice Parker's world was turned upside down. Her peaceful life at Honeysuckle Farm in the quiet rural village of Brook Bridge was swapped for the bustling metropolis of New York City. Alice's life was changed forever...

A second chance

Now, thirteen years later, Alice's American dream is over. With her life in tatters, there is only one place Alice wants to be... home at Honeysuckle Farm. So when Alice learns her beloved Grandie is ill, she knows this is her last chance to heal the family rift.

A forever home?

But secrets still swirl in Brook Bridge, and Alice is no closer to discovering the truth. And for some reason her new friendship with local heartthrob Sam Reid seems to be making the locals tense.

Sick of the lies Alice knows it's time to lay the past to rest once and for all. But could the truth ruin her hopes of ever calling Honeysuckle Farm home again?

I loved this book!! I've read a novel by Christie Barlow before but I just feel like this book was amazing and it's made me desperately want to read more of her novels! It's uplifting, easy to read and throughly enjoyable  - I loved every page!

Firstly, the cover just draws you in completely, I adore the colourful flowers and leaves surrounding the edges, the pretty hours tucked behind the trees, and the lovely green fields. It just looks so inviting! Secondly, the blurb made me want to read it even more. I found it to be just so intriguing and I couldn't wait to read more.

The story itself is completely gripping. I was just so eager to find out what had happened between Alice's mum and her Grandad! The story follows main character Alice, who has had to move to New York with her mum after mum Rose had a huge falling out with Alice's Grandad (or Grandie, as he is known in the novel). We aren't told anything in regards to what had happened, or why this happened, so it definitely makes you want to continue reading and not put it down!

When Alice gets a message from best friend Grace in regards to her Grandie's health 13 years later, she jets back to England as soon as she can, and it's clear from then that Alice doesn't ever want to go back to New York but has several things holding her back. Over the course of the story, Alice tries her best to uncover the truth about the falling out, and is shocked at what she discovers. As well as this, Alice grows ever closer to the village 'bad-boy' Sam Reid, and I was definitely hoping that they would get together!

The other characters were just as nice as Sam (I really liked his character and found him to be really caring and lovely!) and I found myself really liking Grace and her mum. They were easy to relate to as well as easy to like. The village sounded wonderful and the community spirit is clear to see. I loved the idea of Village Day and I really found myself enjoying reading about the Dance School and the dance elements that is weaved in throughout the story.

This is a brilliant novel about family and romance and I loved every minute. I would definitely recommend picking up a novel from Christie Barlow, as I'm sure you'd enjoy it! I'm 100% going to check out her other novels now.
